Omayuk by Shoom'lah

The first half of my character design final which I've been too lazy to upload. For heaven knows what reason, I started sketching orcas with legs in parkas the first week of our assignment and it sort of stuck. I liked the idea of a tiny orca youngling getting tormented by an adult seal from a neighboring tribe, and so Omayok came to be.

The Maharajah by Lemonfruitpie

I don't think he's a real maharajah, no; he's just called as such. This came to me after I listend to the intro of 'Hindi Sad Diamonds' off the Moulin Rouge soundtrack. It's got this heavy plodding beat that reminds me of stomping elephants. His story is located over at my lj here:

http://lemonfruitpie.livejournal.com/193785.html#cutid1

It feels good to paint again, though this was just a quickie.

Art and Character(c) S.Liao
Textures from Mayang Library.
Inspired heavily by: aforementioned song, pictures of Indian war elephants, and pictures of Indian jewelry.

Medium: oc3, pencil, pen
Tags: male elephant indian asian tusks
My boyfriends dog got bit by a snake a couple weeks ago. And while he was sick he stayed home to take care of him. I never realized how much he loved his dog.
Balto by Growly

A movie poster for one of my favorite movies, Balto.
I wanted to bring a little more sophistication to this than most children's movie posters and focus in one a mood and a feeling rather than showing a scene or showing little disembodied heads of every single character.

In my eyes, this movie isn't about talking geese and polar bears and qt pie red huskies... really it isn't even about saving sick children in Nome.
What's stricken me most about this movie since I was very young is Balto's own personal journey... his battle of facing great dangers in order to find himself and accept the wolf inside of him.
It's truly touching, and I hope I captured some of that feeling in this.

Medium: watercolor
Tags: wolf snow dog watercolor running movie hybrid poster alaska wolfdog Balto dramatic
